Mayor Dale Berry advised Tuesday, March 17, 2020 during the regular scheduled board meeting any elderly needing assistance during the state of emergency, please contact City Hall at 601-849-3344 and the Mayor’s Youth Council will Assist. The group can run errands, buy groceries, pick up medicine, or any help that is needed to keep the more at risk citizens from being in the public and exposed to the virus.

Mayor Berry advised everyone to still shop local during the crisis and take advantage of the drive through and curb side services the restaurants are providing.

Berry advised the Pride of Magee Football books from 1926-2000 by author Delvan Irwin are available for purchase at MageeNews.com. The cost is $25.00.  The books have the names all the former players, cheerleader, coaches, games stats and brief summary on each game.  The book is a great read.

Berry reminded the citizens how important it is to complete the 2020 Census. The packets have been mailed and most citizens should have received them. There are 10 questions and it takes about 10 minutes to complete. Please complete the form.

A discussion was held on curfews for the city. Problems are occurring during late hours of the night with individuals roaming streets. The board agreed to allow Chief Randy Crawford to obtain information from surrounding cities and see if or what they are doing.

The City of Magee agreed to entered into a City State of Emergency during the COVID 19 sistutation. Each department head reported to the board the plan of action each department is taking to deal with the COVID 19.  City Hall has locked their doors with limited access. Utility bills can be dropped off at the drop box and receipts will be mailed. Anyone needing to speak with City Hall employees are asked to call 601-849-3344.

Park Director David Dunn announced the parks are closed at this time until further notice. Dunn announced Grand Slam has cancelled all tournaments thought March. Utrip has cancelled their season in the United States and Canada.

The City of Magee has cancelled all city events. Three events were scheduled at the Civic Center or Community House and refunds will be granted.

The Fire Department sold the tanker truck for $55,000. The proceeds from the sale will go toward the purchase of needed air packs.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
