Arthur C McAlpin, Sr. of Magee, Mississippi went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. He passed away at the age of 87 after being hospitalized at the ICU at Forrest General Hospital. He was born in Indianola, Mississippi on September 6, 1933. He was the son of the Rev. Zollie Bill and Pearl Rankin McAlpin.
After graduating from Pinola High School in 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army during the close of the Korean War. After his military training, he served overseas and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. After returning home from serving overseas, he married Elsie Bishop of Magee, Mississippi on July 21, 1962. They have three children, Arthur C “Art” McAlpin, Jr. (Lori) of Magee, Mississippi, Dr. Angelia Woodward (Doug) of Cottondale, Alabama, and Rev. Billy John McAlpin (Marlana) of Macon, Missouri.
He was a treasured member of First Baptist Church, Magee, Mississippi. He served many years on the accounting and communion committees. He also served as the sixth-grade boys’ Sunday school teacher for many years.
He enjoyed being a farmer. He spent his life tending to crops, cows, and chickens. He was a grower for McCarty Farms. However, he found great fulfillment being a Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office in Mendenhall, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, L C McAlpin and Bill McAlpin; and his sisters, Novis Jones and Bonnie Bill Womack. He is survived by his sisters, Nevis Womack and Bettie Jean Ratliff, along with his wife, his three children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandson.
He lived his life for Christ. He loved people and put them ahead of himself. His memory will always be in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
His services will be held Friday, July 23, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Magee, Mississippi. Visitation will be conducted in the sanctuary at 12:00 PM and followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM. Graveside service will be held at Sharon Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to Blair E Batson Children’s Hospital.
