Nelson Wells, 84, of Mize, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Magee General Hospital. In honoring his wishes upon death, his body was donated to science and research at University of Mississippi Medical Center. He chose to do this with the hope that other lives may be helped or saved through his death.
Wells was a lifelong resident of Mize. He married Virginia Robinson, also of Mize, 66 years ago. He loved his family dearly, and always worked hard to provide for them. He also loved “his boys” that he mentored on construction job sites over the years. He and “his boys” built well over 200 homes around Mize, Mt. Olive, Magee and the surrounding area. He loved telling stories about those homes and the people who he worked for and with over the years. He prided himself on a job well done and a house well built.
He was a faithful member of New Sardis Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. He helped build the church and spent many days remodeling and repairing it over the years.
He was preceded in death by parents Alonzo and Scrap Wells and infant brother Elton Wells.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Glinda (Odean) Busby of Magee; son, Ira Wells of Mize; sister Edith (Carroll) Sellers of Flowood; grandchildren Jason (Robin) Busby of Pulaski and Molly (Brian) Staley of Brandon; great-grandchildren Kate and Luke Busby of Pulaski and Brooke and Ian Barron of Brandon.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, October 25 at New Sardis Baptist Church in Smith County. From 2 pm – 3pm, the church will host an open visitation time for anyone who wishes to visit with the family.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to New Sardis Baptist Church 93 SCR 40 Mt. Olive, MS 39119.
