Arkansan Tapped to Head Delta Regional Authority

WASHINGTON—Chris Caldwell, a seventh-generation Arkansan and member of U.S. Senator John Boozman’s staff, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the co-chairman of the Delta Regional Authority (DRA).

The DRA—a federal-state partnership that works to improve regional economic opportunity in the Mississippi River Delta Region—is led by a board comprised of the Federal Co-Chairman and the governors of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

“Chris shares the DRA’s commitment and vision for improving economic opportunity in the delta region. He has a passion for helping others, a strong sense of duty to the region and an understanding of what it takes to bring economic growth to our communities. Plus, he is as tenacious as they come. Chris will be a tireless advocate and an asset to the entire delta in this role,” Boozman said.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation. Along with Boozman’s backing, Caldwell has already received support from Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Thad Cochran (R-MS), who represents a key DRA state.

“I am confident in Chris Caldwell’s commitment to promote economic growth, better health, and educational opportunities throughout the entire Delta region, and I will support his confirmation. The Delta Regional Authority should have a leadership team in place as soon as possible to meet the region’s unique challenges,” Cochran said.

Caldwell grew up on a cattle ranch in Central Arkansas. He currently resides in Little Rock and serves as the Director of Special Projects for Boozman. He has extensive experience in political campaigns, most recently managing Boozman’s successful reelection campaign. Caldwell has also served on several other campaigns including Governor Mike Huckabee’s 2008 presidential bid and Sen. Tim Hutchinson’s 2002 campaign.

Beyond his political and government service, Caldwell has held various roles in the private sector and is an active volunteer in his community. He graduated with a B.A. in Communications from the University of Arkansas’s J. William Fulbright School.
