Arbor Day Observance at Southern Miss Includes Planting Fruit Trees, Shrubs
Students from the DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi participated in the annual Arbor Day celebration on the Hattiesburg campus, as they worked with members of the University’s Physical Plant staff in establishing an edible orchard on the south side of the University’s Payne Recreation Center. The garden, which includes a variety of fruit trees and shrubs, expands the campus’ tree canopy and will serve as a teaching tool for the USM Department of Biology. The University holds a Tree Campus U.S.A. designation from the Arbor Day Foundation. (Photos by Sara Kathryn Beasley)
