APPLICATIONS SOUGHT FOR FESTIVALSOUTH

YOUTH AMBASSADORS CLASS OF 2021 –

NEW LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCED

Applications are now available for high school-age youth to become part of the FestivalSouth Youth Ambassadors Class of 2022. The program is designed to spark passion, knowledge, and skills in cultural activities for high school youth in the Pine Belt Region. It provides hands-on educational experiences that develop an appreciation for the arts through volunteerism. The Ambassadors directly influence the social and economic impact of FestivalSouth on our community and plant seeds for a vibrant cultural presence in the future. Applications are open through May 1 and may be found on the “connect” tab at festivalsouth.org.

Students accepted into the program will work with FestivalSouth staff to bring arts programming to children across our area; help promote FestivalSouth to their peers; be a voice to FestivalSouth representing this age group; serve as volunteers for FestivalSouth events.

This summer, Dr. Jennifer Bruton returns to helm the Ambassador Program. Serving on the faculty of Jones College, she holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio with an emphasis in Music Marketing, as well as both a master’s degree in vocal performance and pedagogy and a doctorate in conducting from The University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Bruton is equally at home on the stage or on the podium, having served as soloist with the San Antonio Symphony, Natchez Festival of Music, FestivalSouth, the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Southern Opera and Musical Theatre, nationally recognized Hub City Players, and many others. At Jones College, Dr. Bruton teaches voice, directs the musical theatre program, and serves as the musical director and instructor for Jones OnStage. In addition to her teaching, she maintains a private studio and an active performing career across the region singing styles ranging from opera to pop.

“Having been involved with FestivalSouth since its inception, I am excited about working with the Youth Ambassadors and hope that involving students in this way will encourage them to foster their own gifts and patronize arts events across our area throughout the year.”

FestivalSouth® takes place from June 2 – 25, 2022 throughout the Pine Belt, with both in-person and live streamed events. It is Mississippi’s only multi-week, multi-genre arts festival, offering both free and ticketed events to local residents and cultural tourists. Presented by the Hattiesburg Concert Association (HCA), this year’s festival promises to be an experience you won’t forget!
