The second contest featured Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson and his wife, Mississippi’s First Lady of Agriculture Leslie Gipson. Leslie Gipson was the overall winner with a total of 3.5 cups also milked from Sophia the cow.

Annual Magnolia Beef and Poultry Expo Heads to Raleigh April 11

Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson to Address Magnolia Beef and Poultry Expo

 

JACKSON, Miss. – The annual Magnolia Beef & Poultry Expo will take place Thursday, April 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Charles Waldrup Ag Complex in Raleigh, Mississippi. Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson will address expo attendees at 9:30 a.m.

Beef and poultry producers from across the state will have the opportunity to attend educational seminars and browse the trade show. The trade show, featuring a variety of agribusinesses and organizations, opens at 8:00 a.m. The Charles Waldrup Memorial Scholarship will be presented at 9:30 a.m., followed by remarks by Commissioner Gipson. Jonathan Moon, Extension Instructor with Mississippi State University’s Department of Poultry Science, will lead a Proper Poultry Composting presentation at 10:00 a.m. Following lunch, Dr. Mike Brown, State Climatologist and Professor of Meteorology & Climatology with Mississippi State University Extension, will provide an update on the impacts from recent droughts.

All producers in attendance will be eligible to win the grand door prize, a Polaris Sportsman 450 H.O. four-wheeler, with an estimated value of $6,699. This year’s grand door prize is sponsored by the Covington, Jasper, Jones, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson and Smith County Farm Bureaus. Additional door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

This is a free event and open to the public. The Expo is hosted by the Covington, Jones, Jasper, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson and Smith County Extension Service Offices. The 2024 Magnolia Beef and Poultry Expo is sponsored by Community Bank, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, Pro Flow Motorsports, First Financial Bank, John Deere AGUP Equipment, Mississippi Poultry Association, Inc., Ozark-Ag, Farm Systems, Inc., and Mississippi State University Extension Service.
