AMR met before the Board of Supervisors Monday, June 5, 2017 in reference to a comment that was submitted to MageeNews.com from a concerned citizen about the ambulance service in Simpson County.

According to Stan Alford, Manager of Operations AMR, this is the first written complaint that has been received in a year. Alford reported ambulances have been called out of Simpson County 46 times to Hinds County in a year and 742 times Hinds county has  been called to Simpson County.

Board members asked questions concerning the service that is provided by the ambulance service. AMR guaranteed Simpson County was receiving prompt service. Ambulances are located within and service Simpson County. Details were given on calls. For example, when an ambulance transfers a patient from Magee to Hattiesburg, there is an hour trip to and from plus time at hospital to complete any paper work etc. The trip leaves this particular ambulance out of the county for a period of three hours.

The problem is not that ambulance services are not available but on any given day or time of the year the problem could be supply and demand versus resources. (Several emergencies could happen in one day within minutes or hours of each other requiring ambulance services at the same time.)

One board member mentioned there had been talk and concerns within the community about time factors involving ambulance response time. When concerns were brought before the board previously, the board requested written dates and times of complaints but information nor details have never been provided. The board explained before anything can be done there has to be a written form of complaint; with this paper trail, the supervisors could then compare call logs and times to see if there was indeed a problem.

Simpson County Board of Supervisors and AMR both only want what is the best for the citizens of Simpson County. Anyone who has a complaint are asked to file complaint with the Board of Supervisors in a written form with date and time of incident to be investigated.
