AMERICAN PHAROAH, is the Triple Crown Winner, after 37 years of waiting. American Pharoah led all the way to win the Belmont Stakes by 5 1/2 lengths on Saturday. The first horse since 1978 to sweep the Kentucky Derby. With an unusual short tail, American Pharoah the bay colt, easily defeated seven rivals in the 1.5 mile race.
The American Pharoah is the 12th horse and first since Affirmed in 1978 to win three races on different tracks at varying distances over a five week period. The trainer, 62 year old Bob Baffert, is the oldest trainer of a Triple Crown winner. Baffert was reported saying, “That little horse deserved it, he is the one that did it. We were basically just passengers.”
