Sammy Tebo, Jacob Blakney, Casey Smith, Greg Kemp, and Marney Walker caught a 12’ foot 3 1/2 inches alligator on Eagle Lake this weekend! The gator was 61 inches in girth and 50 1/2 inches around the tail. These guys are skilled hunters! (And much braver than I would be!)
Alligator hunting season is open from August 31-September 10, 2018.
Alligator sport hunting began in 2005. 480 permits were issued for the 2018 season according the the MS Department Wildlife Fisheries and Parks website.
Alligators may be found all across Mississippi. They are most prevalent in the southern two-thirds of the state (south of Hwy 82). While alligators typically avoid humans and human activity, occasionally they do cause conflicts with humans. Juvenile alligators often disperse into new territories in the late spring and early summer months
