Alice Odell Garner Miller
(1/18/1938 – 12/25/2023)

Alice Odell Garner Miller, 85 came into the world on January 18, 1938 in Mount Olive, Mississippi. She married Alanzo Walker and had her first son James Arthur Walker. They later moved to California and lived for a short time. Alice returned to Mount Olive to take care of her Aunt Mattie Harris. She was such a loving person whether family or not she would always lend a helping hand. Alice later remarried to James Vincent Miller, Sr. and brought in two more sons, James Vincent Miller, Jr., and James Arthur Lee Miller. She liked the name James, and if you know your Bible then you would know why she chose that name. She loved to watch nature and planting her flowers. A certain grandson would tell you about the many scoldings for shooting her squirrels. She always kept her humming bird feeders full. She loved her late-night Bible studies with her granddaughter and taking rides on the backroads. She worked at Mount Olive in the cafeteria for over 40 years, where she always greeted her kids with a wonderful smile and some times extra food. Many football players could tell you stories of the food comas she put them in. She lived a long life and touched many lives. On December 25, 2023 Alice went to her heavenly home while surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Vincent Miller, Sr.; father, William Preston Garner; mother, Sally Jane Chain Garner; brother, Preston Garner; sisters, Katherine Courtney, and Agnes Booth; and son, James Arthur Walker.

Survivors include her son, James A.L. Miller and daughter-in-law, Ashley Elizabeth Miller; son, James Vincent Miller, Jr; grandchildren, Alishia Nicole Kendall (Gerry), Timothy Miller (Kayla), Michelle Landrum and Ryan Ethridge; great grandchildren, Preston Miller, Peyton Miller, Lane Stewart, Gracelynn Kendall, Autumn Kendall and Kyrie Kendall; brothers, Verl Garner and Ted Garner; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, MS. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, MS. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Mount Olive, Mississippi. Bro. Jeff Easterling will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031.
