JACKSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College Simpson County Center sophomores Abigail “Scout” Algee of Florence and Carley May of Magee were recently named to the All-Mississippi Academic Second Team.
Forty-eight Mississippi community and junior college students have been named to the All-Mississippi Academic Team. The All-Mississippi Academic Team recognizes the scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of community and junior college students across the state of Mississippi. Fifteen students have been named to the First Team and each will receive a $1,000 stipend. The All-Mississippi Academic Team was recognized at the State Capitol by the Mississippi Legislature and honored at a luncheon. The program is coordinated by The Clarion-Ledger, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and the Mississippi State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
Each college is eligible to nominate two students per campus for the Academic Team Competition. From the nominations received, 20 First, Second and Third Team members will be selected. First Team members will each receive a $2,500 cash stipend and a commemorative obelisk from USA TODAY; will be recognized during the Phi Theta Kappa Presidents Breakfast at the AACC Convention in Washington, DC; and will be featured in USA TODAY international newspaper. Second and Third Team members will each receive an engraved medallion and will be listed in USA TODAY.
In addition, nominees may have the opportunity to receive recognition through the All-State Academic Team program, designed to provide the same type of recognition as the national teams, only on a state level.
Algee serves as President of the Trailblazers, Student Government Association President, and Xsi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Vice President of Leadership. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Bible Club, was selected to Who’s Who at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and as a Campus Favorite.
Algee plans to pursue a career in Poultry Science at Mississippi State University. She is the daughter of Jeff and Kristi Algee.

May serves as President of the Xsi Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and a Student Government Association Representative. She is a member of the Trailblazers and was voted as Miss Co-Lin for the Simpson County Center. She was selected to Who’s Who at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
May plans to pursue a career in nursing after graduating from Co-Lin. She is the daughter of James and Dayna May.
