Alcorn State University announces Craft’s Achievements
Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi, is proud to announce that ZYRUS CRAFT, of MOUNT OLIVE, MS, enrolled as an early 2022 high school graduate from Mount Olive Attendance Center in Mt. Olive, MS. Craft was the recipient of several scholarships from Alcorn State University during the 2022-2023 year and he has also been awarded several scholarships for the 2023-2024 year. For the 2022–2023 year CRAFT received a full Athletic Scholarship for football, the Alcorn State University Scholar Scholarship, Alcorn State MS Freshmen Excellence Scholarship, Alyce Clark Leadership Scholarship, American Geographer Book Scholarship, Alcorn State University Legacy Scholarship, and Alcorn State University SAAS Scholarship (School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences Scholars Program). For the 2023-2024 academic year he will receive a full Athletic Scholarship for football, the Alcorn State University Scholar Scholarship, and Alcorn State University SAAS Scholarship (School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences Scholars Program).
A full Athletic Scholarship covers tuition, certain course-related fees, room and board, and the value or provision of books. The Alcorn’s Scholars Scholarship provides up to $10,000 per academic year (for four years) to help defray student expenses. The School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (SAAS) Scholars Scholarship also provides up to $10,000 per academic year (for four years). This scholarship is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture through the National Institute of Food and Agriculture and will cover tuition, housing and living expenses for selected students annually. Each annual award is contingent upon the student’s continued successful academic performance.
To be eligible, students must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale), and a 20 or better ACT score (or equivalent SAT score). He or she must also demonstrate leadership ability and a commitment to community service, as well as aspire to one of the following courses of study: Agricultural Science (any concentration), Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, Food, Nutrition, and Community Health Sciences, Human Development and Family Science and Applied Science (Geospatial Engineering Technology).
Craft currently holds a 3.8 GPA and is a double major. He is majoring in Geospatial Engineering Technology/Homeland Security.
Since Craft has been enrolled as a student at Alcorn State University, he earned several academic recognitions. He was selected to participate in the ENTERGY SCHOLARS PROGRAM sponsored by ENTERGY on April 24, 2023. He earned Dean’s Scholar his first semester and was recognized at Alcorn’s Spring and Fall Honors Convocation held on March 23, 2023. He was accepted into The Myrlie Evers-Williams Honors Program on September 5, 2022. He was inducted into Alcorn’s National Society of Leadership and Success on November 11, 2022.
Craft current holds classification as a Junior and is an offensive lineman on the Alcorn’s State University Football team.
