JACKSON, Miss.  – Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson invites the media to the Kirk Fordice Equine Center on Friday, September 20, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. to get a preview of the annual Safe Horse Auction and Equine Fair.

The Safe Horse Auction and Equine Fair, hosted by the Safe Horse Project, will be held Saturday, September 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The auction provides a venue that matches buyers, sellers and horses. The auction gives those looking for a horse the opportunity to meet the owners and trainers of over 50 pre-screened and pre-vetted horses, enabling them to find the right horse for their needs and skill level. The equine fair will include a varied line-up of seminars given by expert trainers demonstrating horse behavior and training skills, equine health and nutrition professionals sharing best practices for the care and feeding of horses, saddle and tack experts and agricultural officials teaching pasture management and the necessary skills for keeping horses.

During the event preview on Friday at 10:00 a.m., the media will have the opportunity to learn more about the event, get video footage of event preparation, including the trainers exercising the horses, and interview Commissioner Gipson and event coordinators.

The Safe Horse Project, coordinated by Mississippi Horse Rescue, Inc., is dedicated to providing programs and events to promote responsible horse ownership and encourage growth and participation in the equine industry.
