Billy Morehead received national acclaim for his diligence to encourage college accounting students to pursue public service careers.
In late July, leaders of the Association of Government Accountants recognized Morehead for his outstanding service as the inaugural chair of its Higher Education Committee.

The Mississippi College accounting professor earned the AGA National President’s Award.

“It was an honor and privilege to chair the AGA’s National Higher Education Committee during its inaugural year,” Morehead said. “I look forward to year two.”

The Mississippian thanked AGA President Jim Arnette for the honor. The MC professor saluted the association’s entire committee and its national staff team.
Founded in 1950 as an association of federal accountants, the group expanded in 1975 to include state and local government finance professionals. The organization is based in Alexandria, Virginia. Morehead served as the organization’s 60th president in 2009-2010.
The Greenville native joined the MC School of Business faculty in August 2011 as an associate professor of accountancy. His duties on the Clinton campus followed an award-winning career at Delta State University and in state government. The Delta State graduate served as vice president for finance and administration at his alma mater in Cleveland.

Moorhead first joined the professional association at its Jackson, Mississippi chapter in 1986.

As first chair of the AGA Higher Education Committee, Morehead also shared with college students the benefits of joining a professional organization.
The MC educator has served as a former financial facilitator and compliance auditor with the International Mission Board.
Mississippi College colleagues and friends across the nation offered their congratulations to Morehead for getting his latest award.
In 2012, Morehead picked up the association’s Robert W. King Memorial Award named for the AGA’s founding president.

Billy and his wife, Audrey Morehead, are Madison residents.
