My mother’s family, the Horn’s, have been getting together for probably 80 years the Sunday before Christmas. Thanks to dedicated children and grandchildren, the event was held…but it sure looked a-lot different!
My Aunt Jean Ross, the last living sibling of the L. G. and Bertha Horn union, is now in an assisted living home in Madison. Aunt Jean has been at every celebration. Jean has a wonderful memory for a 96 year old chick! She is up on the times and very involved with her family. The move to the assisted living was not an easy one but actually one she made herself. She had lived at home until several months ago. COVID hits and her time in the home sure looks different than expected.
Her son, Knox Ross, Jr., and daughters, Rebecca Rogers, Deborah Stone, and Barbara Phillips, took charge of the reunion this year and made it happen by Zoom.
Zoom is not the same as being in the room with someone but the feed sure made for a delightful visit…rather than nothing!
Jean was awed by seeing everyone on one screen! She loved it. We were scattered from Washington, DC, to New York, to Tupelo, to Pelahatchie, to Montgomery, to De Moines, to Vicksburg, to Brandon, to Marks, to Hattiesburg, to Memphis to Greenville, to Jackson, and of course to Magee!
We missed seeing all the children. Watching our family grow and seeing the dedication to being together as a family once a year is amazing.
If you are missing your family and ya’ll can’t get together, try Zoom. If you have problems downloading the app, just contact me.
Christmas comes in many ways…and this year it came over a computer.
Merry Christmas
