Sunday morning at First Baptist Church, Magee, I witnessed one of the sweetest celebrations of faith and dedication I’ve ever seen. My dear friend, Mrs. Frances Kees, was honored for 70 years of teaching Sunday School — and all 70 of those years have been right here at FBC!
At 99 years old, Mrs. Frances is officially retiring from teaching, but her influence will never retire. I’ve been blessed to sit near her every Sunday, and I can’t tell you how much joy it has brought me to turn around and see her smiling face.
If you don’t know Mrs. Frances…well, you don’t know style! This precious lady rocks vibrant colors and stylish shoes like no one else. I’ve told her often that she has only grown more beautiful with age.
Her faithfulness has never wavered. She sang in the choir for years — only giving it up about five years ago! She’s been a pillar in our church, showing younger generations what it means to serve with a full heart.
As I watched her surrounded by her children, family, and many friends on Sunday, I couldn’t help but think: this is the kind of life we should all strive to live. A life of service, of love, of quiet strength.
Thank you, Mrs. Frances, for the life you are living. Thank you for being such a shining example to me and to so many others. Thank you for loving our church and its people so deeply.
You will always be special to me.
