Run-offs facing several candidates

The August 8, 2023 election in Simpson County had the largest number of unopposed candidates in many years.

Republican Tim Gray ran unopposed but will face Democrat Temelka Smith in the November 7, 2023 General Election.

District Attorney Chris Hennis ran unopposed as did State Senator 35 Andy Berry.  Price Wallace, Representative District 77, received 3,208 votes.

Noah Sanford, State House of Representatives 90 received 320 votes.  Circuit Clerk Whitt Fortenberry, Coroner Terry Tutor, Sheriff Paul Mullins, Tax Assessor Jamie Brewer, Supervisor District 4 Donny Welch, Election Commissioner Eugene Blair and Constable Chris Jones ran unopposed.

In a six man race for Supervisor District 3, Wayne Womack won with 57% of the vote requiring no run off.  Daniel Ferguson and Charlie Westmoland, Supervisor District 5, face one another in the August 29th election.  Westmoland led the ticket with 479 votes. Ferguson was a close second with 403 votes.  Supervisor District 2 Danny Craft and David Johnson will face a run-off on August 29, 2023.  Craft received 518 votes (49.10%).  Johnson received 294 votes (27.87%).  G. Mitchell Chatman defeated Curtis Skiffer 394-279 for the position of Supervisor District 1.

Justice Court Judge Post 1 candidate Brian Kennedy solidly won 1,567 to Clint Welch 371. Incumbent Charles Savell defeated Tracey Brown Seghini 1,386 to 895.

Incumbent Constable Post 1Randall Coleman defeated Jamie Freeman 1,322 to 509.

According to Circuit Clerk Witt Fortenberry, the election process went smoothly.
