Four new West Nile virus cases in the state have been confirmed in the past week alone, bringing Mississippi’s total of human WNV cases for the year to 25.

Zika virus infection remains a risk to Mississippians who travel to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central or South America. New travel-related cases of Zika have raised the total to 23 in the state this year.
Because of the danger of birth defects that can be severe or fatal for a developing baby, pregnant women should not travel to countries or areas where Zika is being actively transmitted.
