Memorial Day is Monday, May 30 and before the day arrives, the Mendenhall Cemeteries Association want all the veterans in its care to be properly honored by placing a flag on their grave.
The cemetery is asking for volunteers to help place flags at gravesites Friday, May 27 at 4:00 p.m.
Volunteers should gather beside the maintenance shed in the middle section of the cemetery by 3:45 p.m. to receive an assignment of veterans’ graves to honor. The Mendenhall Cemetery is located on East Court Street, just north of the Sheriff’s Department.
Just show up, you do not need to register to participate. If possible, please bring a small hammer and long screwdriver (or similar) to help securely and safely place flags in ground.
Approximately, 325 U.S. flags will be placed and displayed through Memorial Day.
The public is invited to visit the cemetery this holiday weekend to pay respect to all veterans laid to rest in the cemetery.
