The three who died were identified as Charles Badger, Kevin Malone, and Charles Igleharte, all of Marion County, according to Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor.

The bridge on State Route 149 over the Strong River in Simpson County collapsed Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024.  The work site accident happened during a bridge replacement project as the contractor was in the process of demolishing the bridge.  Workers were on site during the collapse.  According to Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins,  3 workers were confirmed deceased and at least 4 severely injured. Emergency officials are still working the scene. The last body was recovered at 8:45 PM according to Sheriff Paul Mullins.

When officials arrived, they discovered that a piece of equipment had failed, bringing the bridge down into the river below.
