DSCN0786Sempra Energy, the parent corporation for Mississippi Hub, has continued their support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education at the Simpson County Technical Center and Magee High School through a donation of $20,000. Sempra Energy, based in San Diego, is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company with 2014 revenues of more than $11 billon. The Sempra Energy companies’ 17,000 employees serve more than 32 million consumers worldwide. The donation to the Simpson County School District is directed to improving the technology used in classrooms that support STEM education.

Funds have been used to purchase computer technology and software in addition to robotics kits at Magee High School’s STEM classes. STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines. – science technology, engineering and mathematics – in a interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

At the Technical Center funds are used to support the lab for polymer Science where students get hands on experience using a 3-Dimensianal (3-D) printer that gives students the ability to produce visual representations of their drawings. The field of Polymer Science offers a range of capabilities for custom web coating of adhesives and other specialized coatings for medical and electronics applications.

The Simpson County School District sincerely appreciates the support of Mississippi Hub in furthering the educational experience of students throughout the county in STEM related classes. Pictured are: Dr. Tom Duncan, Dr. Bo Huffman, Glen Harris, Herman Duckworth, and Pete Howell.
