JACKSON, Miss – Secretary of State Michael Watson, in collaboration with Mississippi Veterans Affairs (MSVA), has renewed the “Vote in Honor of a Veteran” campaign for the 2024 November General Election.

In front of Jackson’s War Memorial Building, Secretary Watson, MSVA Executive Director Mark Smith, and Mississippi veterans convened Tuesday morning to encourage Mississippi voters to honor their favorite veteran or soldier while stressing the importance of voter engagement.

“We are blessed to live in a great nation where thousands of Americans sacrifice their safety to protect our families and communities. Through their selfless actions, we live in the greatest country where freedom abounds, including the right for citizens to vote. I encourage all Mississippians to use this opportunity to recognize one of our beloved service members,” said Secretary Michael Watson.

“Veterans across our great state, past and present, have served during peacetime, world conflicts, natural disasters and more. And since voting is our civic duty, I cannot think of a better way to honor these men and women,” said Director Smith. “Regardless of political affiliation, when you cast your ballot, keep our Veterans and their families in your mind and heart. As a Veteran with 28 years of military service and a father of two sons who are Veterans, I am proud to join Secretary Watson in his mission to celebrate America’s heroes.”

To recognize any veteran or soldier, Mississippians may utilize the Vote in Honor of a Veteran webpage located on the Secretary of State’s Y’all Vote website. Participants are invited to provide details on their hero and include any commentary as to why their vote has been dedicated to the soldier or veteran.

Upon submission, participants will receive a Vote in Honor of a Veteran button and social card to highlight their veteran or soldier at the polls on Election Day (November 5, 2024). Submissions may also be displayed on the Vote in Honor of a Veteran “Honor Wall.”

Mississippi has approximately 180,000 veterans, and all Mississippians are encouraged to cast their vote in honor of a veteran.
