On 09/17/2023 @ approximately 11:26, Magee Fire Dept received a report of a brush fire on Mac Rd off of Highway 541 S. Upon arrival, units discovered a rapidly expanding fire that had spread in to adjoining woods & an approximately 100 acre cut over.
The fire was started by a local occupant burning a trash pile.
The fire spread south & east from the area of origin. Eventually, the fire grew to an estimated 250 acres or greater.
The boundaries of the fire encompassed areas from Highway 541, down along Velma Payne Rd, to the area along Mae Morris Rd, & back to the area of Mac Rd. Numerous exposures, including dwellings, & pipeline infrastructure were threatened & protected.
Fire Departments from Magee, & several units from surrounding Simpson County Fire districts were on scene with pumpers, tankers, & some units with remote off-road fire fighting capabilities. Multiple units of the Ms Forestry Commission, which included 5 dozers, & 1 air craft, & several support units. Simpson Co EMA, & Simpson SO also had units on the scene.
While fighting this fire, Magee was dispatched to two additional fires – 1 in the area of 603 Saratoga-Sharon Rd, & the other near 323 Waters Rd. The Saratoga Rd fire was handled by Magee & Mt Olive FD. The Waters Rd fire was handled by Magee.
