Hi Magee! Hey Sue!

We made it to Saint Jean Pied du Port, France to start the Camino. The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a vast network of ancient pilgrimage routes stretching across Europe, all converging at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Traditionally walked for spiritual growth or penance, it now attracts hundreds of thousands of hikers and cyclists yearly.

The pilgrimage began in the 9th century after it was believed that the remains of Jesus’ apostle, Saint James the Great, were discovered in Galicia. It became one of the three great Christian pilgrimages of the Middle Ages, along with Jerusalem and Rome.

The most famous and iconic route is Camino Frances. It spans approximately 770 km, starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in southern France, crossing the Pyrenees, and taking about 30–35 days to complete.

We did 9 days on the Camino Portuguese last year, but that’s nothing like almost 500 miles in 34 days. We’ll keep in touch!

Andy and Mallory Mundy

Andy McAlpin is the son of Diane and Dan McAlpin of Magee and a graduate of Simpson Academy. Andy has always been one of my son Dickey’s closest friends, and over the years, he has become one of my favorites as well.

Smart, witty, and always entertaining, Andy has a way of making people laugh while keeping them engaged. For years, I have encouraged him to write for MageeNews.com, knowing our readers would enjoy his unique perspective and sense of humor.

I’m excited to share that Andy and his wife, Mallory, have agreed to let us follow along on their journey. Trust me—you’re going to enjoy every minute of it.

And if you’re not already following Andy on Facebook, you should be. A visit to his page is almost guaranteed to brighten your day and leave you laughing.

Mallory writes and produces the “Mundy Out West” page.  She is a fabulous photographer and  writer!
