SCAM ALERT:
Simpson County Sheriff’s Office Warning
Our office has received multiple reports of phone scams targeting Simpson County residents. Callers are impersonating our deputies and court officials, claiming you have an active arrest warrant for missing jury duty or unpaid fines.
THIS IS A FRAUDULENT SCAM. PLEASE READ THE FACTS BELOW:
No Grand Jury until September: Scammers are claiming you missed a Grand Jury date, but Simpson County does not host Grand Jury again until September.
Bizarre Payment Requests: Fraudsters have actually instructed victims to leave cash behind objects at local gas stations. Law enforcement will NEVER ask you to drop money off at a gas station, kiosk, or parking lot.
No Phone Demands: We will never call you to demand immediate payment, fines, or bail over the phone to avoid arrest.
No Gift Cards or Crypto: Our office will never ask for payment via gift cards, prepaid debit cards, Bitcoin, Venmo, or cash apps.Spoofed Numbers:
Scammers can manipulate Caller ID to make it look like the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office is calling. They may even use the real names of active deputies to sound convincing.
What you should do:
Hang up immediately if you receive a high-pressure call demanding money or personal information.
Do NOT give out your Social Security number, bank information, or credit card details.
Verify directly by calling our official, non-emergency office line or the courthouse clerk using a trusted number you look up yourself.
Please SHARE this post to help protect your family, friends, and neighbors from these aggressive thieves!
