Prayers needed for Wesley by Janna Hughes
Update from Jana (3/11/2020)
We have been asked about updates on Wesley’s condition and we are pleased to say we are seeing improvements.
> Our hearts are touched with all the love our family has received. We know that we have hundreds of people praying in 6 different countries for Wesley’s healing.
>
> We feel that prayers are being answered with the improvements that we have seen in Wesley’s numbers. Even as I type, the nurses monitoring the ECMO and ventilator are making adjustments to lower his rates. They are also lowering some of his meds. We can not say enough good things about the tremendous care from doctors and nurses he has received at Baptist East Memphis.
> One doctor told us that his condition has gone from a very critical downward slope to ICU stable. That is a huge from Saturday. We are told to continue to expect baby steps. We love all those positive steps that are restoring Wesley to his smiling healthy self we love.
> I just left Wesley’s room and am filled with awe as I know I am witnessing God’s miracle in Wesley’s life. Please continue to pray as we are reminded by the ICU staff that this is a marathon and not a sprint.
My heart is full of gratitude for all the out pouring of love and prayers for my son, Wesley. He is tremendous guy that is a man of God. He pastors Calvary Baptist Church in Oxford MS. He’s a husband and father to his precious wife Jennifer, daughters Brooke (15), Cate (10) and Elin(3).
>
> Wesley had Type A flu last week and it progressed to pneumonia in both lungs on Saturday. Jennifer took him to Baptist Oxford ER Sat morning where his condition deteriorated when his oxygen levels dropped to a critical point. He was airlifted to Baptist East in Memphis where he is currently in ICU, on a ventilator and ECMO fighting for his life. As the doctors have told us, he is very critical and we will take any baby steps as wins.
>
> This morning his fever is 99 down from 102. The ventilator settings have been lowered and they are beginning to be able to lower the ECMO settings. (This machine removes his blood, oxygenates and replaces it back into his body). They have been able to reduce some medications overnight. They plan a bronchoscope today to get a better look at his lungs. His medical team has been fabulous and have been very direct with us on this is a marathon and not a sprint for Wesley’s recovery.
>
> We know that God is holding and healing Wesley. From all the people we have heard from over the past couple of days, the constant has been “Wesley had been there for me through…”. As a mama, that makes your heart sing to know that your child has made an impact on those around him. Wesley made the decision as a teenager to serve the Lord and I know that God has used him and I truly believe that God has much more planned for him in the future . I feel that God will use this dark time as part of Wesley’s testimony for the future.
>
> We are continuing to pray for Wesley and ask your to join us in asking God to perform His miracles for His glory to be spread in the future.
(Wesley is the son of Janna Hughes and Joey Hughes and the grandson of Nell Hughes. He is a graduate of Simpson Academy. Wesley serves as the pastor at a Calvary in Oxford, MS)
