Nelda Holbrook Ham, a lifelong resident of Magee, MS, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Born on April 3, 1936, to Marion and Reba Holbrook, Nelda and her younger brother Norman were raised in Magee MS. She graduated from Magee High School where she met her future husband, Robert David Ham. After graduation, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree and taught at Magee High School and Simpson Academy. Later, she joined her husband in their business, Gay’s Department Store
Nelda was cherished for her warm personality, loving spirit, and active involvement in the community. She was a charter member of the Belles and Beaus club, a member of Magee Chamber of Commerce, and active in volunteer work for Magee. After retiring, Nelda traveled with a group of close friends, who named themselves the “Golden Girls.” They enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and staying involved in their community. As an active and dedicated member of Goodwater Baptist church she played the piano, sang in the choir, and enjoyed church activities. It was her love of the Lord and her dedication to family, friends, church, and community that embodied her life. She loved to work in her yard, and riding on her Gator through the pine trees. Nelda had a challenging life, but she handled every challenge with grace and wisdom
She had 3 children: Robert David Ham II, Angela Ham Coleman (Robert), and Joel Craig Ham (Tish); grandchildren, Travis Ham, Kayla Ham-Herod (Craig), Anna Beth Coleman, and Addison Coleman; great-grandchild Gracee Ham.
Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert David Ham, and her brother, Norman Holbrook.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Brittany Patterson and her staff at Covington Ridge Assisted Living for her care. Special thanks to the sitters Angela, Tenia, and Alicia for their compassion and care.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee, MS. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Goodwater Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goodwater Baptist Church or Goodwater Cemetery Fund, 1313 Goodwater Rd NW, Magee, MS, 39111
