Update on
Tate: 04/23/2025
It’s been a week since our appointment at MD Anderson, and I wanted to take a little time after Easter before sharing an update.
Unfortunately, MD Anderson doesn’t currently have a clinical trial that fits Tate’s case — and finding one he qualifies for is going to be extremely difficult. What’s even more overwhelming is that MD Anderson, the top cancer hospital in the country, told us, “This is the most complex case we’ve ever seen.” Out of all the patients they see daily, Tate’s case is the most complicated they’ve encountered. That’s hard to wrap my mind around.
As many of you know, Tate is battling two separate brain cancers. One had remained stable until now, but this latest scan shows new activity — meaning both cancers are now active. One has three tumors, and the other has developed a new spot.
We’re starting a new chemo and possibly adding Optune while continuing to search for a trial he may qualify for. We also have a phone consultation with the Mayo Clinic on Thursday. So, until God opens another door, we will continue with MD Anderson.
Please continue praying for Tate’s complete, earthly healing. I truly believe God is going to use his story in a powerful way.
Also, we ask for specific prayers about what comes next. Tate is 25 ½ and currently covered by his father’s insurance — but that will end when he turns 26, unless his father is willing to take the necessary steps to keep him on as a disabled adult child. If that doesn’t happen, we’d either need to find a different hospital that accepts his secondary insurance or move to Texas, become a resident there and have his secondary insurance in the state of Texas. But I cannot and will not leave my other two children behind, so relocating would be an absolute last resort.
Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support. We feel every one.
Matthew 18:19
19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
Matthew 21:22
22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.
John 14:13
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.
Tate Clayburn has suffered with brain cancer since age 17. He is fighting the fight…but needs our help.
Tate is a member of the Magee Volunteer Fire Department where he is an active member. (Somethings he can’t do, but what he can…he does)
Tate’s fellow fireman want to make a difference in Tate’s life. The department is sponsoring a benefit for Tate Saturday, April 26th from 11 AM-1 PM. Chicken plates are $10 and will be available at the 5 way stop in Magee. Pre-ordering is not necessary. The MVFD goal is 1,000 plates.
I interviewed Tate and Fire Chief David Craft earlier in the week. David emphasized the dedication Tate has for the fire department. “If he can come, he is there,” stated Craft.
David explained that many people include a donation along with the cost of the plate.
“100% of the money goes to Tate and his family,” stated the Chief. Many people have donated food for the event. “B. J. Smith organizes our cooking and gets most items donated. BJ is the force behind the event.”
