Magee Fire Department Investigating Explosions Along Highway 49 South
MAGEE — The Magee Fire Department is investigating a series of explosions reported on Tuesday on Simpson Highway 49 South of Magee.
According to Magee Fire Chief David Craft, residents in the area reported hearing multiple loud explosions coming from a building located along the highway.
Chief Craft said one of the explosions was powerful enough to propel a piece of metal roofing approximately 30 feet into the air before it landed on a main power line.
Firefighters responded to the scene and contained the fire to its point of origin. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Chief Craft noted that the affected area could continue to smolder for several days as crews monitor conditions.
The cause of the explosions and subsequent fire remains under investigation.
