Joyce Evelyn Crawford Allen accomplished all she set out to do in this short life on earth. She was born on Christmas Eve 1930 and reared in Mount Olive, MS, to Lee and M.L. Crawford.

She was a big sister to Mary Ennis and tried to keep her brothers, Kenneth and  Milford, out of trouble.  A graduate of Mt Olive High School in 1947, she soon headed off to college.  She attended Hinds and Jones Jr Colleges.  She proudly graduated from Southern Miss in 1951, with a BS degree in homemaking.

With her degree in hand and a life-long marriage to Pat Allen, she began her teaching career, becoming a mother to hundreds of elementary students.

Staying within the Simpson and Covington counties all of her days, she touched the lives of so many people.

During summer school breaks and after retirement, she and Pat would travel across the USA, enjoying places like Las Vegas.  That may have sparked her interest in the local Gulf Coast casinos. She enjoyed those casino trips with friends and family, always enjoying the good meals and the stories she and her friends could tell on the way back home. That made it a win every time.

Her other big wins came from playing bridge with her friends.  Even during her last few months before the COVID-19 virus pandemic, she would be playing or hosting the weekly bridge club.  She was hard to beat.

Joyce had an excellent memory and a passion for family history.  We will miss hearing those stories and all of her many nieces and nephews will continue to share those fond memories to make our beloved Aunt Joyce proud.

The family would like to thank Faith and her staff at Lake View Place Assisted Living for their compassion and care for Joyce.

To honor Joyce’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at Magee Cemetery, Monday, October 12, 2020, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Arc Mississippi, 601.355.0220 or to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 800.805.5856 are appreciated.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home in Magee.
