It is with hearts both broken and a hope remaining in Christ that we announce that Joseph Kevin Johnston, 56, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, entered into the arms of his savior peacefully at home, on June 12, 2026. He was surrounded in love by his wife and children.
Kevin was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and throughout his life was known for his unwavering faith in the Lord and his passion for sharing God’s Word with others. He deeply loved and supported his family, taking every opportunity to encourage his five children in all their endeavors and celebrate their accomplishments.
Kevin had a remarkable gift for making strangers feel like lifelong friends. He truly enjoyed his time of retail management of Walmart, Big Lot’s , Academy, and especially the people he met along the way. He found great joy in sharing his love of music and songwriting with others and eagerly anticipated each hunting season, embracing both as sources of peace, adventure, and fellowship. Kevin especially loved to share his passion for outdoors with his five children. From every kind of season of hunting, fishing, four wheeler rides, or just finding another project to work on, you could always find him somewhere outside.
Kevin spent most of his retirement days sitting in his recliner with his grandbabies, Levi and Honey Bea which he truly enjoyed. He was determined to attend all of his children’s high school and college events whether it be for cheerleading, band, archery, or academics. He spent much of his time in a football stadium or gym enjoying the same activities his babies did.
Above all, Kevin devoted his life to God and his family. Through his faith, compassion and grace, he touched countless lives and will be well remembered and greatly missed by his loved ones.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Charity Shows Johnston; his five children: Callie Breaux (Garrett), Tyler, Taylor, Abigail, and Garrett Johnston; his two grandchildren: Levi and Honey Bea Breaux; his mother, Frances Hart Davis; his siblings: James Johnston, Tanya, Todd (Amy), and Keith (Michelle) Davis. He was preceded in death by his father, James Millard Johnston Jr.; his stepfather, John Davis; and his sister, Debra Bufkin.
Pallbearers are Tyler Johnston, Garrett Johnston, Greg Davis, Garrett Breaux, Colton Johnston, Walker Wallace
Honorary Pallbearers are Levi Breaux and Jimmy Johnston
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 10:00am – 2:00pm at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Mendenhall, MS with the funeral service to follow. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate his life.
Forever loved, forever missed
