Jonathan O’Neil Varnes, 45, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026. He was born on January 23, 1981, to Johnny Varnes and Alisa Gray Easterling in Jackson, MS.

Jonathan worked as a bricklayer by trade, which he learned from his grandfather, and was very good at it. He enjoyed playing the guitar with his son and spending time with him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alisa Gray Easterling; maternal grandparents, John L. Gray and Lavon Puckett Gray; paternal grandparents, Marlin Varnes and Jettie Mae Varnes; step-grandfather, Kenneth Garner; and grandson, Jr. Varnes.

He is survived by his father, Johnny Varnes (Gloria); son, Jon Varnes; grandchildren, Addy Varnes and Ayla Varnes; brother, Jeffrey Varnes (Raven); nieces, Brailey Varnes, Ava Varnes, and Elaina Varnes; nephew, Ryder Maddox; and step-grandmother, Elaine Garner along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Dry Creek Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Bro. Thomas Sanders, Bro. David Hayes and Emerson Diaz will officiate the service.
