Fay McCloud Herring, age 79, passed away on September 28, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 21, 1947, to Clayborn Charles Smith and Wanzie Juanita Smith.
She was raised with the values of kindness, humility, and family devotion that would guide her throughout her life. Those who knew her best remember her as a loving and kind woman whose warmth could be felt in every room she entered.
Fay’s proudest accomplishments in life were her family. She cherished being with them, and found her greatest joy in the simple, meaningful moments she shared with the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life centered on her family’s care and happiness. Her love was steady and unconditional, and she gave generously of herself in countless ways that will be remembered for years.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Kiser and his wife Janet, George Lewis and his wife Rebecca, and Robb Herring and his wife Amanda; her daughters, Wanda Sullivan and her husband Aaron, Gloria Jean McCraney, and Suzanne Tidwell and her husband Joseph; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fay treasured each member of her family and took great pride in watching them grow, thrive, and carry forward the love she gave so freely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her brothers, Billy C. Smith (Judy), Tommy G. Smith, Bobby Carrol Smith, and Ronald Clayborn Smith; her sisters, Betty Jean Smith and Peggy Peavy (Roy); and her grandson, C.J. Kiser. These loved ones held a special place in her heart, and their memories remained an important part of her life.
Fay will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her loving nature, and the kind way she treated others. She had a quiet strength that comforted those around her, and she had a gift for making others feel valued and cared for. Her family and friends will remember her smile, her tenderness, and the many ways she showed her love through both words and actions.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Brother Chris Garcia will officiate the service beginning at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, at Tutor Funeral Home, with interment following in Southern Memorial Gardens.
