JACKSON, MS — Escaped parolee Branden Young, who fled a minimum-security facility in Madison County on Sunday, is now at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.
Young was captured early Monday morning in Jackson after a brief chase. A Capitol Police officer spotted a black SUV without a license plate at a gas station on Bailey Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. and tried to make contact with the driver. The driver sped off, prompting a brief pursuit that ended a few blocks away, where the driver jumped out and fled on foot.
The driver was captured on Medgar Evers Boulevard and subsequently identified as Young, 38, MDOC #142668. He now faces felony fleeing charges.
Young had escaped from the Madison County Community Work Center (CWC) about 24 hours earlier. He was on parole for felony DUI in Rankin County but had been assigned to the technical violation center at the CWC for 90 days after his parole was revoked.
He received a 10-year sentence on Nov. 21, 2020, and was paroled on June 6, 2023. His parole was revoked in August for failing to abide by the terms.
Authorities are still investigating how Young obtained the vehicle.
“I commend Capitol Police for their attentiveness and quick response, which led to Young’s apprehension,” MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain said. “We appreciate their work and the assistance of our law enforcement partners in bringing this search to a close.”
