Both Suspects Captured Following Shooting of Covington County Deputy
MOUNT OLIVE — The two suspects sought in connection with the shooting of a Covington County Sheriff’s Office deputy Monday afternoon have been apprehended and taken into custody.
Chief Deputy Ricky Lott confirmed that Cortavious Lawayne Hobbs and Cortavon Hobbs were located and arrested beneath a house in the same general area where they fled following the shooting.
According to Lott, law enforcement officers discovered the suspects hiding under the residence as they attempted to make their way back toward the area where the incident originally occurred.
Both men were taken into custody without further incident and are being transported to an area detention facility.
The arrests bring an end to an intensive manhunt that involved numerous law enforcement agencies from across South Mississippi. Authorities launched the search after Deputy Yates Rodney was shot during an encounter with the suspects earlier Monday in Mount Olive.
Deputy Rodney remains hospitalized following surgery. Sheriff Darrell Perkins reported that the deputy is in stable but serious condition.
“He’s stable, but he’s not out of the woods yet,” Perkins said.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, and additional charges are expected as authorities continue to gather evidence.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
