Please—act like there is a burn ban!
Grass fires are becoming a real problem across Simpson County. The Magee Fire Department has answered several grass fire calls just this week, and with everything so dry, it doesn’t take much for a small fire to turn into a BIG problem.
One of the larger fires firefighters battled started as a controlled burn.
That’s the scary part. You may think you have a fire under control, but with dry grass and a little wind, it can get away from you in a matter of minutes. Before you know it, firefighters are being called and property may be in danger.
Even if an official burn ban has not been issued, use some good common sense and act like there is one!
Our firefighters have enough to do without fighting preventable grass fires.
Please don’t burn. Be careful. Be smart.
