An 18 wheeler carrying liquefied yeast just quite could not make the left turn onto the frontage road from the road between Taco Bell and McDonald’s.
The truck driver was not injured and basically just misjudged the turn range. The truck was fully loaded bringing the total to about 80,000 pounds of liquid yeast and truck!
“We were very fortunate,” stated Police Chief Randy Crawford, that the truck was not carrying hazard material.” Fire Marshal Charlie Valadie, explained that diesel was leaking from the gas tanks and a material would be put on the ground before the cab was up righted. Walker Brothers Wrecker service was on site to assist with the procedure.
The liquid yeast was being hauled by Indian River truck line. Originally, the plans were to bring in another truck to transfer the load, but due to a bent valve the load will be up-righted. The city crews, fire marshal, and safety personal have been on site preparing the area. DEQ and EPA are on site and will handle the clean up.
Just another interesting bit of info: the truck was brand new!
The area frontage road will remain closed until all clean-up is complete.
