At 0618 on May 13, 2024, an 18 wheeler fire @ the Love’s Truck Stop was reported. Magee Fire responded with 3 units & 14 personnel. Upon arrival, found a tractor/trailer well involved under the diesel fuel canopy. The tractor and two adjoining full pumps were under heavy flames impingement. A near-by tractor trailer was an exposure issue (being threatened by the flames). The fuel pumps were shut off at the emergency fuel stop switch.

Fire fighters directly attacked the flames, extinguishing the fire & protected any nearby exposures from catching fire. Fire was reported under control @ 0639.

The driver reported that while he was fueling the truck,  suddenly noticed flame coming out from under the front end of the tractor. He discontinued filling & ran for help. The Tractor & two fuel pumps were totally destroyed. The trailer suffered some damage. A nearby tractor trailer unit suffered significant heat damage, but did not catch on fire. The fuel canopy immediately above the fire suffered some smoke & heat damage. The diesel fuel area remains closed until the damage to the pump & surrounding infrastructure can be assessed & repairs made. The store, restaurant, tire center & passenger car fuel area is open.
