secretary of stateAfternoon Update: 2015 General Election

Jackson, Miss.—As of the time of this release, the Secretary of State’s Office has received approximately 400 calls regarding minor issues. Turnout continues to be categorized as light across the State; higher in areas where local races are increasing voter turnout.

The Secretary of State’s Office has been informed approximately 2,162 voters in Bolivar County in Senate District 22 may not be voting in the correct senate district. The total number of eligible voters in Senate District 22 in Bolivar County is 2,812.

“It appears the election commissioners in Bolivar County may not have redistricted the new Senate district lines correctly on the ballot,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.

The following eligible voters may be voting in the wrong senate districts:
· West Central Cleveland Precinct: 607 voters are voting in Senate District 22 and should be voting in Senate District 13.
· Stringtown Precinct: 47 voters are voting in Senate District 22 and should be voting in Senate District 12.
*The total number of eligible voters who may be casting a ballot in Senate District 22 which should not be casting such ballots: 654
· Northwest Cleveland Precinct: 1087 voters are voting in Senate District 12 and should be voting in Senate District 22.
· West Cleveland Precinct: 421 voters are voting in Senate District 12 and should be voting in Senate District 22.
*The total number of eligible voters who may not be casting a ballot in Senate District 22 and should be casting such ballots: 1508

Because voting has commenced, voters must continue to vote in the current Senate District precincts, even though they appear to be incorrect on the ballot Bolivar County. Redistricting is implemented on the ballot at the county level, and in the case of Bolivar County, was to be performed by county election commissioners.
