Wyatt Waters to highlight Wesson Chamber of Commerce, Co-Lin fundraiser
WESSON – The Wesson Chamber of Commerce and Copiah-Lincoln Community College Band Program will present a Holiday Celebration “Where Music Meets Art” on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Old Wesson School. The evening will include musical performances, a silent auction, and a guest appearance by Mississippi Watercolor Artist Wyatt Waters.
“The college is grateful to the Wesson Chamber of Commerce and the many generoussupporters of the Co-Lin Band Program to host this exciting event,” said Dr. Jane Hulon, Vice President of Instructional Services. “The proceeds from this fundraising effort will benefit and enhance the future activities of the Blue Wave Show Band.”
“We are so proud and pleased to partner with the Co-Lin Band Program for this holiday event,” said Marilyn Britt, Wesson Chamber of Commerce President. “This is great for our community and will benefit so many students.”
Waters will be autographing his 2016 calendars that will be on sale that evening. Waters paints a variety of subjects in plein air using transparent watercolor. His work has been featured in Art & Antiques, Watercolor Magazine, Mississippi Magazine, and Delta Magazine. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections. He has had solo shows at the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, the Meridian Museum of Art, and the Jackson Municipal Art Gallery. He has published several books featuring his watercolor paintings, including An Italian Palate, which is his most recent collaboration with chef and restaurateur, Robert St. John. Waters received the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters award for An Oxford Sketchbook and the Mississippi Library Association Special Award for Art for his collaboration with Robert St. John, A Southern Palate.
In 2010, he received the Mississippi Arts Commission Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. Waters owns and operates the Wyatt Waters Gallery in Clinton, Mississippi.
Musical performances will include the Co-Lin Jazz Band, Sojourners, percussion, woodwind, and brass ensembles.
Co-Lin’s Culinary Arts Program will provide heavy hors d’oeuvres for the evening.
Silent auction items will include merchandise from The Outlet, Janet Smith Pottery, Bass Pro Shop, Smith’s Machine and Welding, and much more.
