MSU Poultry Science Department, Mississippi Egg Marketing Board, Mississippi Beef Council and Mississippi Poultry Association Announce Winners of the 2025 Dixie National Rodeo Days Crêpe Showdown
JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi State University (MSU) Department of Poultry Science hosted the Inaugural “Dixie National Rodeo Days Crêpe Showdown” sponsored by the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board, Mississippi Poultry Association and Mississippi Beef Council on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. Several Mississippi 4-H youth competed in the event during the 2025 Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Ten contestants from around the state competed in the crêpe showdown, presenting their entry to a panel of judges within 60 minutes. Contestants were provided the necessary tools to prepare their crêpe, but they brought unusual or unique ingredients from home.
Ryn Laster, President of the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board, Lauren Fortenberry with the Mississippi Poultry Association and Crystal Tisme with WAPT served as judges for the cook-off. Serving as the Mistress of Ceremonies was the delightful Maggie Wade with WLBT news.
Placing first from Madison County was Henry Klein with his King Cake inspired crêpe. In second place was Tyler Brooks of Noxubee County. Placing third representing Hinds County was Lucy Haskins, serving up a strawberry cream cheese crêpe. Tying for fourth place were Raylee Reed and Joshua Hancock representing Rankin County, and Amoury Austin representing Noxubee County. Best of Beef was awarded to Passion Terrell of Humphreys County, Heidi Hood of Forrest County, and Williow and Robert Cox-Osbourne of DeSoto County.
The contestants placing first, second and third were awarded cash prizes by the Mississippi Poultry Association in amounts of $75, $50 and $25, respectively. Fourth place was awarded $25 by Cal-Maine Foods, and Best Beef winners each won $50 awarded by the Mississippi Beef Council. All contestants received a home cooking toolkit that included an apron, skillet, whisk and spatula sponsored by the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board.
MSU Poultry Science Department Extension Instructor and Dixie National Rodeo Days Crêpe Showdown host Tannah Christensen said, “A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors for these opportunities, which allow our talented 4-H chefs to showcase their skills while expanding their minds and gaining knowledge of the egg industry in friendly contests such as these.”
