Wendell Curtis McMillan of Mendenhall, Mississippi

Wendell Curtis McMillan passed away at his residence on April 29, 2025. He was born on August 31, 1940, to Samuel Raymond McMillan and Wilma Shivers Axsom in Mendenhall, MS.

Curtis was a lifelong resident of Mendenhall. Growing up, he was an active participant in sports, particularly football. His love for the sport carried on throughout his life. During his senior year in high school, his team won the Little Dixie Championship. He played at Co-Lin and was later inducted into the Co-Lin Sports Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Hall of Fame. He owned and operated Curtis McMillan Insurance and Real Estate, holding a broker’s license.  In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He adored his family, and spending time with them brought him great joy, especially with his grandsons. He was very proud of them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Raymond McMillan and Wilma Shivers Axsom, and his brother, Charles McMillan.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ruby Kay McMillan; daughters, Margaret Smith (Terry Lee Smith) and Melinda Thomas (Steve); sisters, Martha McWhorter, Justina Loomis, Elizabeth Stanton; five grandsons, Matt Smith, Ben Smith, Luke Smith, Zach Thomas, Zane Thomas and three great-grandchildren, Ridge, Rivers and Rip Smith.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The service will be on Friday, May 2, at 10:00 am at Tutor Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at Mendenhall City Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
