By James Davis
The Scriptural passage for today is found in 1 John 1-2: “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense–Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for the sins of the whole world.” The apostle is writing to new Christian converts regarding sin and the way in which we are to deal with it. We know that we all sin and come short of the glory of God; however, with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, God’s only son, the need for offering blood sacrifices to cover sins ended. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of all the world. For the Christian, direct prayer to Jesus for forgiveness for sins is instant and immediate. They are covered by the blood of Jesus. What a friend we have in Jesus. Let’s never forget that, and we can now show our appreciation by sharing love, joy, and kindness with all those with whom we come in contact.
