Miss Mississippi Comes Home: USM to Honor Hannah Roberts
The University of Southern Mississippi will honor Hannah Roberts, 2015 Miss Mississippi, with a welcome home reception at the Trent Lott Center on the Hattiesburg Campus on Saturday, July 11, at 2 p.m.
Roberts, who is a May 2015 Southern Miss graduate, was crowned Miss Mississippi last Saturday in Vicksburg. Remarks from University President Rodney D. Bennett and Roberts will be made at 3:15 p.m. The reception is open to the public.
“This event is an opportunity for the community to congratulate one of our own on her significant achievements and wish her well as she pursues the Miss America crown,” said Jim Coll, University of Southern Mississippi Chief Communication Officer. “Hannah has been one of the University’s most successful students in recent years and will represent Mississippi well.”
Roberts, who was crowned Miss University of Southern Mississippi last fall, was an Honors College student and Presidential Scholar at Southern Miss. She has already been accepted to medical school at The University of Mississippi Medical Center, and has won numerous academic awards including a national Goldwater Scholarship, which honors the next generation of outstanding research scientists.
Roberts is also a talented classical violin performer who has donated more than 25,000 books to children in hospitals, homeless shelters and additional locations through her Pages of Love platform.
“What an incredible opportunity we have to celebrate not just Hannah’s accomplishment, but also her genuine love of her university,” said Wynde Fitts, Associate Dean of Students. “I am so excited to welcome Hannah home to celebrate her crowning as Miss Mississippi.”
Roberts, a Mount Olive, Miss., native, will compete in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, N.J., in September.
