Cleanup started immediately for early morning fire at Technical Center Saturday, January 18, 2020. As soon as fire was extinguished and building safe to enter ServPro was called to start the clean up process. A large crew is on hand at the tech center removing ceiling tiles, cleaning air conditioner ducts, removing lightning and cleaning smoke damage walls. The clean up is expected to take several weeks.
Dr. Bo Huffman, Principal, jump quickly into action to arrive with a great plan for the students to continue with classes. Dr. Huffman was quoted as saying “I know if we will all give a Quality Effort, stay flexible and remain POSITIVE we can work the problem and be better because of it. ”
Beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2020, all health science and health informatics classes will be held at the technical center. We will move our polymer science, Ag and Natural Resources, construction, metal fab, Diesel Tech and Law and Public Safety classes to Mendenhall High School. In order to keep the technical center students from Magee, Simpson Academy, and homeschool programs together, these students will ride their shuttle bus to the tech center. Students from these schools who drive to the tech center will park in the tech center parking lot. These students will then load a shuttle bus and be transported to Mendenhall High School together where we will meet to start the day in the gymnasium. Once all of these students have arrived we will escort them to their assigned classrooms for the next 2 to 3 weeks. When ServePro has completed the clean up at the Technical Center classes will resume there for all Technical Center students.
The transition was gone smoothly. Students are able to continue with studies and ServPro is able to compete all needed repairs.
With all the ceiling tiles and light fixtures remove, now is the time for any upgrades that might be needed. The school board will approve or disapprove any large upgrades that might be needed.
The fire could have been a total different outcome and we are blessed for this to not be the case. The Tech Center will come back bigger and stronger than ever.
