According to Mayor Dale Berry, illegal dumping is still a problem in the city of Magee.
Several weeks ago, the Mayor mentioned people were leaving garbage bags in trash bins on Main Street as well as other areas in the city. Although this problem is better other problems still exist.
Azalea and Magee Manor Apartments are two complexes that do not pay a garbage pick up fee to the city. The companies that own these apartments provide a dumpster. Residents are dumping debris (mattresses, furniture, etc) outside the dumpster which the contracted company will not pick up; therefore, the city is being pressured to clear these areas.
9th Avenue and 11th Avenue have areas of illegal dumping.
Alderman Lane Steele asked if the management companies had been contacted. City Attorney Bruce Smith explained we have a city ordinance for clean up and the ordinance should be enforced.
Alderman Matthew Hickman expressed his feelings of the importance of doing things in a timely manner. Snapping his fingers for emphasis, Alderman Hickman explained how things should move from one step to another without skipping a beat in getting the problems solved. The entire board was in agreement to pursue contact with apartment management.
