The Trojans (5-0) hosted the defending State Champions Jefferson Davis County Jaguars Friday night, October 23, 2020. Coming off a big win on the road against Tylertown last week, the Trojans knew they had their hands full with a strong Jaguar team.
Friday was Senior night and all senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members were recognized.
Tensions and emotions were high for the evening. The referees experienced a workout throwing an unbelievable amount of flags on the evening. The flags fell almost as much as the rain. Magee would battle with the stripes all evening having 4 touchdowns called back for penalties. Coach Dyess stood strong defending his athletes.
In the first quarter #7 Xavier Franks crossed the goal line on a pass with 1:22 left on the clock only to be called back for holding. The weather played a factor in the evening and the game went into a thirty minute weather delay due to lighting.
Second quarter Magee stopped the Jags on downs on their own 12 yard line. Magee scored with 4:12 minutes left on the clock when #7 Franks found the goal line again to only have the play called back for holding.
Magee held strong and #2 Chandler Pittman scored on a quarterback keeper with 3:04 left in the half. The point-point conversion was no good. Magee led by a score of 6-0.
The Trojan Defense played well in the first half. The only score by the visitors was in the first half with :01 remaining on the clock before halftime. The back and forth flow continued as the Jags would rally to score. The point after attempt was good. Magee was down 7-6 heading into half-time.
Third quarter Trojans scored on a passing touchdown by #5 Jaylen Floyd. The two-point conversion by #1 Cayden Bridges was good. Magee led 14-7.
Magee appeared to be in the driver seat with 4:05 left in the game when they fumble on their own 16-yard line. Jags take over with great field possession. Magee defense plays hard and with 3:29 left on clock forced a fumble and Magee recovers.
#10 Tristen Newsome entered the game at quarterback and shot a cannon to move the ball mid field after #2 Pittman exited the field after being shaken up on the previous play.
Magee’s defense was forced to stand strong once more. With 1:33 left in the game Magee fumbled on fourth down on their own 28-yard line. Again, the Jags were given a great field opportunity. The Trojan defense held strong and took over on downs with :48 remaining in game.
Magee sealed the victory by a score of 14-7. The Trojans move to 6-0 on the season and will face Columbia Friday, October 30, 2020. The district game will be at Columbia. Magee enters the game with a 6-0 record. Magee will encounter a Wildcats squad coming off a 33-0 league win over Seminary. The Wildcats record now stands at 7-1.
If Magee wins, the Trojans will be District Champs. Magee could still lose the game and become district champs if they lost by less than 7 points. A lot is at stake Friday night.
