TROJANS ROUT COLLINS TIGERS 42-7

The Magee Trojans looked to bounce back this week at home against the Collins Tigers.   Magee won the toss and deferred to the second half.   Both teams would stall on their initial drives.   On the visitors’ next drive, Collins would score their only touchdown of the game on a 50-yard touchdown pass from QB Malcolm Price.   With Sophomore QB, Kendal Middleton at the helm,  The Trojans would respond on their next drive.  With great runs by Braeden Gregory, Magee marched down the field and Tylan Benson would finish the drive with a touchdown run.  PAT was good by Gavyn Chafin.  The senior does a great job handling all the kicking duties for the Trojans.    Other first quarter highlights included an ESPN worthy interception made by DaQuon Levy.   The quarter ended with the teams tied 7-7.

The Trojans showed flashes of good offense, but miscues kept them out of the endzone for most of the second quarter.   The Defense would do their part keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard.   Also in the quarter, Darian Woods would snuff out a fake field goal attempt by the Tigers.   Senior, Tristan Newsome would enter as QB for the Trojans.  He connected with Kyerston Tucker on a 50-yard touchdown pass.  PAT by Chafin was good and the Trojans led 14-7.   The Trojans would get the ball back with under 2 minutes left in the half and drove to the Tigers 20-yard line, but time would run out.  It was 14-7 Trojans at the half.

The third quarter would start much like the second for the Trojans offense.   Magee would march down the field including a 4th down run by Middleton and an outstanding run by Demichael Green that set the Trojans up with first and goal.  However, an interception in the end zone would give the ball to the Tigers.  The Trojan D would bail out the offense when they forced a fumble and recovered on the Tigers’ 2-yard line.  Braeden Gregory would punch it into the endzone for the Red and Gray.  The PAT was blocked and the Trojans led 20-7.    The Defense would continue their outstanding play.     Jamarion Kitchens, Delarious Hayes and Marcus Herrington lived in the Tigers’ backfield.   Toward the end of the quarter, Tristan Newsome would explode for a 45-yard run to put the Trojans up 27-7 after the PAT.   That is how the third quarter would end.

Magee would add a safety to start their scoring in the 4th quarter.  On the Tigers’ kickoff, Kyerston Tucker blazed through the Tigers’ coverage for a TD only for it to be called back for holding.   After the penalty, Magee would start at the visitors’ 20-yard line.  It didn’t take long as Braeden Gregory would score for the Trojans.  After the PAT it was 36-7 for the Trojans.  Later in the quarter, Kitchens would recover a fumble on the Tigers’ 29-yard line.   Middleton would punch it in and the Trojans led 42-7.   That is how game would end.

Magee moved to 2-2 on the year and look to build on the positives.  The 2022 edition of the Trojans has some experience, but they also have several 9th and 10th graders either starting or playing critical minutes.  They understand the challenges before them, but the coaches and players are working hard as they prepare for district play.   It was a good night for the Trojans.   The Band and Cheerleaders also did a great job representing Trojan Nation.   Magee will host Yazoo City in the last non-district matchup this Friday beginning at 7:30. Come out and support the Trojans!
