Public School Football season starts Friday, August 27, 2021.
The Magee High School defending 3A State Champions are excited to start the season. The team has hit some snags with COVID. Thursday, August 19, 2021 was the first day Magee was allowed to practice due to the school going virtual for two weeks.
Magee had to cancel their jamboree schedule for the 20th. The 1st game of the season against Taylorsviille that was scheduled for Thursday, August 26th had to be moved to a Jamboree, due to Magee not having enough prior practice sessions.
Then, the unfortunate news came that Smith County Schools were closing for two weeks and Taylorsville would not be allowed to play football. Magee shifted gears and found Heidelberg willing to play in a Jamboree.
Heidelberg is under the direction of new Head Coach and Magee Alumnus Jimbo Nowell.
The Trojans are facing new leadership with New Head Coach Zack Jones.
Jones leaves Lumberton High School were he helped guide them to a 1A State Championship win over Biggersville this past season. In six seasons, Jones was a three-time South State champion, won five straight region titles and posted a record of 65-19.
Jones has 14 years of coaching experience at Forest, Pearl, Pelahatchie, Philadelphia, and Lumberton. The last six years he has been the head coach of his AlmaMater.
It is expected to be an exciting season! No team is guaranteed another week of play with COVID restrictions. So athletes play each game like it is your last one!
